SNACK Recommends: Counterflows

Various Locations, Glasgow

6th till 9th April

Four whole days of music on the edge of cutting edge. Opening the fest is the world premiere of new work from a trio of turntablists: Mariam Rezaei, Maria Chavez, and Victoria Shen – each spinning their own mods and builds and coalescing their disparate experiences into one composition of scratching, beat juggling, and sound sculpture. They make history as the first trio of female turntablists of colour and are here to share their love for the tenacious turntable. Silvia Tarozzi and Deborah Walker present their work in collab with Glasgow’s Glad Community Choir and are inspired by the ‘evocative power of female rice-field workers’ choirs’. Plus, an extraordinary chance to see Maggie Nicols performing solo on the Mackintosh Church’s grand piano.

Saturday night ends with a party on a boat! DJ sets from Boosterhooch, Proc Fiskal and DJ Diaki spanning experimental and collage and electro and more for you to rave to. On Sunday, there will be the Small Publishers Fair for you to get your fix of zines, comics, records and more. Throughout the fest, there are also ‘hang-outs’, a place to restock and refresh and reconnect with like-minded folk. See their website for more.
