DR ORR: A MUSICAL RETELLING OF MACBETH

Shakespeare’s classic is reimagined at Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a macabre musical set in a grim hospital.

Macbeth is reforged as a musical in this hospital-set modernisation, Dr Orr: A Musical Retelling of Macbeth.

The show, from Edinburgh University Shakespeare Company, is set to open at theSpace@Symposium Hall, kicking off on 19th August and running through to 23rd August.

The official synopsis of Dr Orr calls the show ‘a sharply modern, musical retelling of Macbeth, underscored by the haunting music of Glasgow-born composer Buxton Orr. Set in a 1990s hospital, a brilliant female surgeon is overlooked for a younger male colleague. Unrecognised and underestimated, she begins to unravel. Spurred on by her manipulative boyfriend and the whispers of three strange electricians, she spirals toward bloodshed.’

‘Along with a stirring score of music [arranged by Schneeberger himself], the hospital becomes a battleground of paranoia, betrayal, and supernatural occurrences. Dr Orr brings the Bard’s darkest tragedy to life with surgical precision and musical originality.’
