Hello and welcome to the SNACK Edinburgh Festivals Guide 2026 #1,

This year, we’re doing things a bit differently. Never in the history of the whole entire world has SNACK ever run TWO!! Edinburgh Festivals Guides in one year. Well, sugar plum, this is the year.

You are holding the first of these guides in your hand. It’s quite a nice thing, I hope you agree. I hope it gives you a useful place to start or to augment your own personal festival plan. We’ll be back at the start of week 2 (14th August) with our follow-up. That one will have reviews in it. Oh, the wonders.

As one of our writers so perfectly put it (thanks, Donald), festivals are about taking a risk – hopefully by both the creators and the audience. Of course, at the time of collating and writing, the festivals haven’t started yet; so while sometimes we’re picking out shows we have seen, many we have not.  Sometimes, the shows we’ve chosen to highlight have people attached with real pedigrees. This means we feel confident enough to offer these as worthy of taking that risk. Sometimes, we’ve just fancied a thing and decided it was worth a punt. Do with that info, and this guide, what you may. It’s your festival.

Have fun, keep safe, and we’ll see you in August.
