Katie Gregson-MacLeod – Teenage Love (single review)

‘Teenage Love’ is a bittersweet ballad which deals with heartache and hindsight in the form of a coming of age tale. The track examines toxic love by unpicking and exposing a relationship where only one of them was a teenager.

Scottish singer- songwriter Katie Gregson-MacLeod has an impressive discography which is indicative of her talent for creating and capturing deeply personal yet relatable experiences in her music.

The new single exemplifies her unique storytelling style as she creates an intoxicating world of taxi ranks, drugs and unhealthy power dynamics. The intimate nature of the track and the juxtaposition of experiencing and remembering within the lyrics makes it wholly powerful and poignant.

The lyric ‘You had me before I was even mine’ sums up the vulnerability and tenderness of the song and illuminates what it feels like to understand and grapple with retrospect and sense of self.
