Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s first performance of their 2022-23 Digital Season (Shostakovich’s String Quartet No 8)

Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s first performance of their 2022-23 Digital Season, filmed in Leith Theatre, is available to watch free of charge.

Shostakovich’s String Quartet No 8 is a very powerful score. Indeed it was so emotive that it brought the Societ composer himself to tears when he first heard it. As devastating as his symphonies can be, his string quartets are arguably even more dramatic, and given the intimacy of the genre, they invariably feel like intensely personal statements.

This masterpiece of 20th century chamber music, performed by a quartet of SCO players, is available to view online until 4th February.

SCO’s Digital Season gives audiences all over the world the opportunity to hear the SCO play a diverse programme of works whilst at the same time offering people who might find it difficult to make it to their live performances a chance to see the Orchestra in action. For more information on the rest of their digital season visit the SCO website.

If you enjoy the performance and would like to help Scottish Chamber Orchestra to continue their work on and off stage stage and in the wider community, you can also make a donation to the SCO.
