Single Review – Lay Me Down by racecar

East Lothian’s premier palindromic trio have been curiously below our radars since the release of 2022’s splendid, genre-blending album Orange Car. Their return would’ve been welcome had the new single simply ploughed the exact same furrows but ‘Lay Me Down’ represents an analogue step sideways.

Still present are the floaty vocals and a super-smooth bassline, with around a hundred notes played with almost no attack. But more prominent than ever is a clean, single pick-up guitar and a bounding rhythm that embodies the hopefulness of spring.
