Dance at The Fringe 2024 – SNACK Picks

Slosh, Tango, Free-style, or insert embarrassing 90s dance craze here, to the Edinburgh Fringe where you’ll find over a hundred shows and many more dancers just waiting in the wings to make you wish you had more rhythm. Take a look at just a few of those shows on offer below.



FUTURISTIC FOLKTALES 

Dance Base @ Assembly Roxy 13th till 18th August

With choreography by Charlotte Mclean fusing contemporary and Highland dance, soundtracked by the experimental bagpipes of composer Malin Lewis, Futuristic Folktales aims to evoke the turbulent setting of the very first womb, in this politically charged piece about reproductive injustice.

LOVE YOUR WORK 

Greenside @ George Street – Olive Studio 12th till 17th August

Love Your Work is a showcase of dance shows opening up conversations on mental health. This Fringe, EQ Dance brings a comedy dance theatre piece about neurodiversity, as well as a participatory ‘dance TED Talk’, to Greenside.

ANATOMY FOR ACCOUNTANTS

Summerhall – Anatomy Lecture Theatre 1st till 26th August (excluding 12th and 19th)

Performer and choreographer Sacha Copland prices every part of her body and every asset of her life, while naked on stage, in a life-affirming dance-theatre piece that considers the relationship between soft, human biology and cold, hard economics.

THE SHOW FOR YOUNG MEN

Assembly @ Dance Base 2nd till 3rd, 7th till 10th, 14th till 17th, 21st till 24th August

The Show for Young Men is a conversation about masculinity, led by dance, between a 10-year-old boy and a man in his 40s. For audiences aged 8+, this warm-hearted show is part of the Made in Scotland showcase.
