It’s rare to hear of a musician because of a Cannes Film Festival performance that sees Greta Gerwig in tears of joy, but, well, Zaho de Sagazan, she’s rare!
Zaho de Sagazan is one of the fastest rising stars in French music, moving between delicate piano ballads to Kraftwerk-inspired electro, and her LP La symphonie des éclairs released in 2023 has since gone platinum. With this and four French Music Awards, she’s doing something more than making Gerwig weep, and it was clear from her performance tonight that her trajectory will continue this way.
To a diverse and excitable crowd, Zaho drove the energy of the venue from the moment she hit the stage. She fluidly moved between English and French as she charmed the audience with her funny anecdotes between tracks, and then hit us hard with those performances. Playing her rendition of David Bowie’s ‘Modern Love’, she indulged her audience, with the song brought joy to that festival venue and brought many fans to Finnieston.
Tracks like ‘Tristesse’ and ‘o travers’ had us on our feet, giving it our all, impressive for a Sunday night. ‘Dansez’ appropriately moved us that bit more, as she swerved from her synthy electro to the full-on techno, seeing the vibe of the venue rev up a little further. And to conclude the evening with that Bowie cover , she inhaled the love she won from this intimate, joyful performance. Glasgow would happily have her back.
