Gates Of Light announce live set to mark the vinyl release of their debut album

Gates Of Light’s Louise Quinn will be playing an intimate live set from Some Great Reward record store on Victoria Road in Glasgow’s Southside on 15th May, in celebration of the vinyl release of their self-titled debut album. Louise will be playing songs from the album alongside Gareth Perrie (BMX Bandits, Randolph’s Leap) from 2pm.

Inspired by the intensity of lockdown, Gates Of Light’s 10-track project was originally released last year and was the result of a collaboration between five artists across four cities, three time zones and two continents and is now being re-released on vinyl on the New York-based Shimmy Disc/Joyful Noise label.

As well as the new vinyl release, Gates Of Light have also shared a music video for the track “When The Leaf Falls,” directed by Tim Saccenti. Working in the fashion and music worlds, his otherworldly images mix analog lighting techniques with specialised, modern mediums, including 3d, holography, lasers and generative digital art.

Speaking on the new video, Louise wrote:

“Working with Tim on the Gates Of Light project has been an absolute joy; when we were all locked down at the start of the pandemic and didn’t know if it was the end of the world or when we would be able to leave our houses for more than an hour a day; working with Tim was a real light in the dark. We would exchange music influences and talk about what life was like in our respective cities (Glasgow & New York).”

Originally written and recorded by Louise and Bal from their bedroom studio in Glasgow whilst their one-year-old twins slept, the tracks were then sent to Scott and Kid Loco who remixed the them from home studios in London and Paris before Tim created the artwork and a video for the track When The Leaf Falls.

Gates Of Light is the latest project from Louise and Bal who have released music in the past as A Band Called Quinn and DAWNINGS. Louise and Scott Fraser have also previously collaborated following a chance encounter at a nightclub in Glasgow.
