HEN HOOSE EP Review: EP3

Hen Hoose continues to carve an innovative path for Scotland’s emerging musical talent.

Hen Hoose’s final 2024 EP celebrates collaborative creativity, showcasing the collective’s commitment to connecting Scotland’s diverse musical talent. By piecing together artists from different backgrounds, these releases create a sonic tapestry that introduces artists not only to their peers, but to wider audiences.

The EP’s strength lies in its adventurous spirit.

‘The Mountain’, featuring Kiana Kalantar-Hormozi and Tanya Mellotte, bubbles with optimism while K4CIE and XZO’s ‘Bad Decisions’ carries a contagious rhythmic edge.

There’s a restrained electro 80s edge to ‘For All I Care’ from Sarah Hayes and Ray Aggs, working well with Elisabeth Elektra and Carla J Easton’s ‘F**ked Up’, which has a darker, 90s-pop presence. Closer ‘Pressure’, a dynamic collaboration between AMUNDA and Nightwave, pulses with energetic intent.

With such variety on offer, the eclectic nature of the release means each listener will gravitate towards their favourite or favourites.

Hen Hoose is about musical exploration, providing a platform for artists to experiment, challenge themselves, and grow. The inclusive nature of the collective means an EP is more than a mere collection of songs; it’s as much about community and creative possibility as it is about individual tracks for you to enjoy.

As another productive year draws to a close, Hen Hoose continues to carve an innovative path for Scotland’s emerging musical talent.
